5th Edition:

            Welcome to the fifth edition of the MSC Newsletter.    The construction season on campus starts soon and we will discuss the procedures for departments that are being relocated.  As usual, if you have any questions/concerns please contact me @ smcovey@ilstu.edu or 8-8383.

Department Relocation

The summer time is a prime time for work to be completed on campus buildings.  If your department is being relocated, please remember to inform Mail Services of your new location and the date to start delivery in the new location.  It is not necessary to change your address with anyone that mails items to you because Mail Services delivers by the mail code and we will make any necessary changes here.  If you change your mailing address with anyone, it makes it very difficult to change it later.  We still receive mail addressed when Schroeder departments moved and changed their address with those outside the University.  This can cause problems later if a mail piece does not have the campus box on the piece.

5-12-08 Postage Increase

The postage rates will increase in less than a week.  The biggest change is that international mail is changing to shape based pricing like domestic mail.  Always remember if you can make your piece letter size, than the cost will be less.  Domestic and International comparisons of the new rates are currently on our website.  The new cost estimator’s for the new rates will be online in a few days.

Large Pickup’s

If you have more mail than usual, please call mail services to inform us.  This allows us to arrange to pick up your mail on the route or by a special pickup as necessary.

UPS & FedEx Fuel Surcharges

With the recent spike in fuel costs, both delivery companies have increased their fuel surcharges to levels that we have not seen before.  As a result, the cost of mailing items with them have increased.  The fuel surcharge for express items is now 25% of all charges.  This is added onto any charges that are incurred on a package.  For example if the address is incorrect, the cost to send the package will increase $2.50 for the address correction and an additional $0.63 for the fuel surcharge.  Always to remember to double check the information entered on the UPS charge slip.

Mailing services has mailing supplies available.  Please call for availability or use the supply order form on our website.  One note about the supply order form on our website, please INCLUDE contact name and mail code to receive the supplies.  These are the first two fields on the top of the form.  Here is a link to the supply order form.

Website

Every issue of the Mail Service newsletter, I mention the website and some of the features that can be found there.  The reason that I do this is because I want to give our customers the best service that we can.  The website offers many features that some people do not know exist.  There is a new PowerPoint presentation about the website available on the website.  This goes through the entire website and gives more information about the interactive features of our website.  Check it out and find some new things on our website.  Here is a direct link to the presentation.
